CABARITA BEACH/SURROUNDS

Eat/drink:

Tucker Casuarina: a few minutes down the road in Casuarina, Tucker is a fantastic cafe that serves nostalgic Aussie cuisine using seasonal and local produce for breakfast and lunch.

  • We recommend the green eggs for breakfast if you're feeling well behaved or the hotcakes if you're feeling a little naughty

  • For lunch get the chook salad or the fish and chips or the pasta, or anything really!

  • They sell delicious retail bread from Bread Social and gelato from Hevenyah gelato, pick up a take home pack while you're there!

Paper Daisy at Halcyon House: a must when staying in Cabarita Beach. Halcyon House is a renovated motel come boutique hotel that transforms you to another place (some say the Hamptons or Palm Springs, some say the Greek Islands). The food is exceptional, the setting is stunning and the crowd is always impeccably dressed. And while you’re there, make sure you get an Insta photo in front of their infamous breeze block wall.

  • If you are looking for more casual dining ask to be seated outside for their bar menu- our recommendations: their famous prawn sandwich, their green rice king prawns or the pork chop. You can’t go past an Aperol spritz (or two) too

  • If you are after a more fine dining experience, book a table inside and choose between a 3 or 4 course meals

  • They also serve great coffee, so feel free to pop past in the morning for brew or get a take-away for your morning beach walk.

Spice Den: Asian fusion in Casuarina. Open Wednesday to Sunday night. Incredible value $34pp banquet special on Sunday nights. Recommend booking, especially on weekends.

  • Our recommendations are: the dim sum, the pork and barramundi salad and the vegan panang curry. Make sure you get a gin and cucumber juice cocktail while you're at it.

Salt Mill: cute cafe in Kingscliff that are known for their acai bowls!

  • Be careful not to go when its raining as seating is outside!

Izakaya Potts: a quaint Japanese izakaya in Pottsville. Sit up at the grill bar and watch the chefs at work!

  • Our recommendations: tskune and any of their sashimi!

Taverna: newly opened and beautifully renovated Greek restaurant in Kingscliff.

  • Our recommendations: you can’t go past the fried haloumi and their cocktails are great!

Mockingbird: cafe in Kingscliff, best coffee in the area served by Blackboard Coffee.

Emmanuel’s: fantastic wine store in Kingscliff. Emmanuel, the owner, is extremely knowledgable. They also have a small produce fridge that houses some incredible cheeses!

Husk Distillers: famous for their “Ink GnTs”, head 20mins south to Tumbulgum to check out their distillery. Book in a tour or just order a grazing platter to enjoy alongside their gin or rum!

Do:

Beaches: in Cabarita Beach we are truly blessed with an incredible stretch of beach. There are a variety of options (front beach, northern and southern sides of the headland), so you can generally enjoy a pleasant beach day regardless of the wind.

  • Feel free to borrow one of our surfboards if you’re keen on a surf.

Nikkou Store: go shopping at Nikkou Store, an extremely aesthetically pleasing store for women and kids! Housing labels such as Spell, Zulu and Zephyr, Millk and Two Tykes.

Spa at Halcyon House: get pampered at the spa at Halcyon House! No further description required!

Hastings Point: jump in the car and head 5 minutes south to Hastings Point. There is a beautiful inlet, especially good for families with young kids who aren’t so keen on the surf.

  • There is also a beautiful picnic spot up there, so pack some goodies and spend the day!

Walk up Cabarita Headland: only approximately 15 minute return from our house, amazing views of the ocean. Frequent sightings of whales and dolphins.

Picnic from Halcyon House: order a picnic from Halcyon house and they will set you up on the beach with an umbrella and towels! Now that is my kind of beach picnic!

Bike ride to Kingscliff: hire bikes from the hire shop on the main street and ride them along the bike path all the way to Kingscliff. An easy, flat 20km return bike ride with sensational views.

Boardwalk Books: beautiful bookshop in Kingscliff to purchase your vacation read.

Absolutely nothing!: sit in one of our many seats, read a book (small selection in cabinet in front room), doze off, do nothing... all day long!
